In a Nutshell:
The Prophet Muhammed (saw) will be the first person to enter jannah (paradise) of whom it is reported through an authentic hadith its keeper will not allow anyone else in.

Anas bin Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: I will come to the gate of paradise on the Day of Resurrection and would seek its opening and the keeper would say, "Who are you?" I will say, "Muhammed." He would then say, "It is for you that I have been ordered and not to open it for anyone before you."

Therefore the angel will not open the door to anyone before Muhammed (saw), so he will be the first person to go through the gates of jannah.

As regards the hadith on the authority of Bilal (ra) where the Prophet (saw) heard the sound of his footsteps in jannah and asked what he had done whereby Bilal was admitted before him, this relates to his seeing the migration of his soul in his dream.

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said “Their (shuhada’s) souls are in the crops of green birds, which have lamps hanging from the throne, and they roam freely wherever they want in paradise, then they return to those lamps. Their Lord looked down upon them and said: ‘Do you desire anything?’ They said: ‘What could we desire, when we can roam freely wherever we want in paradise?’ He (swt) did that with them three times, and when they saw that they would not be left without being asked, they said: ‘O Lord, we want you to restore our souls to our bodies so that we may be killed in your cause again.’ When He saw that they had no need, they were left alone.” (Sahih al-Muslim)

From his ummah, his companion will be the first person to enter jannah.

Abu Hurairah narrated: The Messenger (saw) said: "Gabriel came and taking me by the hand showed me the gate of jannah (paradise) by which my people will enter." Abu Bakr then said: "Messenger of Allah! I wish I had been with you so that I might have looked at it." The Messenger of Allah (saw) then said: "You, Abu Bakr, will be the first of my people to enter Paradise." (Abu Dawud)
