We all always told about the hadith of the scholars being inheritors of the prophets, but rarely does anyone ask, who are their successors?

The Prophet (saw) said:

‘The Ulema are indeed heirs of the Prophets.' (Abu Dawood)

Many forget that for inheritance to function correctly and achieve its purpose, a system is necessary, without which irregularities, distortions and misappropriations happen.

The system in this case is khilafah led by the rarely quoted hadith speaking about the 'successors' of the prophets:

The Prophet (saw) said, "The Israelis used to be ruled and guided by prophets: Whenever a prophet died, another would take over his place. There will be no prophet after me, but there will be Caliphs who will increase in number." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

These successors and their system have been abernt since 1924 - it is for this reason we see so much chaos amongst our contemporary 'ulema' many of which see Islam as some legal rules integrated into Western systems.

The successors to this noble lineage are the khulafah, starting with Abu Bakr, Umar, Utham, Ali, Hasan, Umar II, Haroon, Mutassim Billah, Muhtadi Billah, Suleiman al-Qanooni and ending with AbdulMajid II in 1924 (raa).

These khulafah, who preserved Islam for over a millennium, instead of being remembered, are disparaged by the ignorant, ignored by self-promoting scholars...

Who are the successors of the messengers and prophets?
