Zakat is not calculated directly on your monthly salary. It applies to your total accumulated wealth exceeding a specific threshold (Nisab) that you've possessed for a full lunar year. If your combined savings, investments and a portion of your saved salary reach the Nisab value, you calculate Zakat at 2.5% of that amount.
And give Zakah (obligatory charity) out of the wealth (of your business and land) which Allah has bestowed upon you and from that which you harvest from the earth. And do not give away the bad (and useless things) in charity, expecting to receive good (in return) thereof, while you yourselves would never accept such (bad things) from others. (Quran 2:267)
