I have lived, worked and travelled in many countries, Muslim and non-Muslim and lived most of my 50 years In the UK. Whilst it has never been possible to live by Islam here, in recent decades that has become increasingly difficult and life here has become more insecure. One has to get beyond the gloss to understand the reality of every society - an ostrich with its head in the ground will always be snug and secure. Despite what Muslims often say about how easy it is to live by Islam here, the UK does not let one practice Muslim communities their deen resulting in growing social problems: - Your contracts, whether work, rental, employment, mortgage, student loan, visa etc are all contracted to be adjudicated in British courts, full of elements that violate the sharia, whilst Islam obliges we contract and arbitrate under qadhis judging by the sharia. - Your pockets are full of fiat currency whilst sharia deems currency should be bimetallic. - Welfare is provided in Islam through bayt al-maal where zakat is taken from the wealthy with resources and assets not taxing the poor through income taxes, sales taxes, inheritance taxes or capital gains. - Schooling and education is designed to produce docile submissive apolitical secular workers for a capitalistic economy rather than independent active thoughtful political ethical servants of God. - Social messaging under Islam would never comprise hundreds of marketing ads encouraging consumption - instead reminders of our creator, purpose in life, journey in the hereafter etc would be all-present through azaans, khutbas, monuments, dress codes, idioms, cliches and so on. As I said the list is endless. Sadly Muslims reduce Islam to a few rituals, morals and dogma and when Western deens permit these as part of integration into a secular liberal capitalistic social order, they believe they are allowed to practice Islam, when in fact they live by kufr which is their actual deen. The Prophet (saw) the questioning in the grave will be for 3 days... simplistic platitudes of 'I believed in Allah' or 'My deen was Islam' will soon unravel with 3 days of questioning.
