The word "jinn" refers to a third type of creation, in addition to humans and angels.

Humans are said to have been made from clay, angels from light and jinn? from fire.

While Islam teaches that some jinn? are good and submit to God, it is believed that others, such as Iblis or Shaytan (Satan), try to tempt people to do evil, similar to the belief in Christian theology.

Satan's famous refusal to bow to Adam is documented in the Qur'an resulting in his attempt to drag as many of humanity with him to hellfire.
