Why are there so many Muslim terrorists?

1 Answer
All the reporting I see and hear about terrorism seems to be related to Muslims... it seems most of it is being committed by them.

In a Nutshell:
The US has been committing wars, atrocities and crimes against humanity across the Muslim world for decades. Muslims are increasingly mobilising against its interference and oppression, along with its dictators and autocrates. Some seek to bring about change peacefully through political means, others through violence.

The Facts

Why are there so many Muslim terrorists?
The research and data does not support a conclusion suggesting most terrorists are Muslims - in fact a small percentage of terrorism related acts involve Muslims. The political and media focus on Muslims has exaggerated the threat enormously.

Consider this research:

  • On the FBI's official website, there exists a chronological list of all terrorist attacks committed on US soil from the year 1980 all the way to 2005. 94% of terrorist attacks carried out in the US from 1980 to 2005 have been by non-Muslims.The same report states there were more Jewish terrorist acts than Muslim ones - however media reporting would not suggest that.
  • Europol publishes an annual report entitled EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report. On their official website, you can access the reports from 2007, 2008 and 2009. The results are stark and prove decisively that not all terrorists are Muslims. In fact, a whopping 99.6% of terrorist attacks in Europe were by non-Muslim groups; a good 84.8% of attacks were from separatist groups completely unrelated to Islam. Leftist groups accounted for over sixteen times as much terrorism as radical Islamic groups. Only a measly 0.4% of terrorist attacks from 2006 to 2008 could be attributed to extremist Muslims.
  • The University of North Carolina carried out research that showed less than 0.0002% of Americans killed since 9/11 were killed by Muslims. Americans were more likely to be killed by a toddler in 2013 than they were by a so-called "Muslim terrorist".

So what is driving Muslims to commit such acts?

In a word - blowback!

Whilst Americans are taught and thus believe their country is a force for good in the world, many in the world believe the opposite. The 2013 WIN/Gallup poll (Worldwide Independent Network of Gallup International) is the only comprehensive international poll available publicly asking the cardinal question of which country is "posing the greatest threat to peace" in the world. The US was cited as the number one threat.

The researcher James Lucas' research documents more than 20 million lives lost resulting from US led wars, military coups and intelligence operations in the post-WW II era. The loss of life in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Libya was not included in his study. His study reveals that U.S. military forces were directly responsible for about 10 to 15 million deaths during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and the two Iraq Wars. The Korean War also includes Chinese deaths while the Vietnam War also includes fatalities in Cambodia and Laos.

When considering America's roles in flaming civil and international conflicts and wars, and the consequential issue of refugees, the consequences are staggering. Even by the roughest estimates, tens of millions are refugees from US led and backed invasions and wars, further tens of millions have been killed, injured and displaced.

All of this inflames public opinion in the region and with elites supported by succeeding US administrations, most see the only way forward as political change.

Others resort to violence in response to violence.
