I can genuinely sympathise with those self-identifying as "Muslims" who are abandoning "Islam" in increasing numbers.

The visible backwardness, vacuousness, hypocrisy and impoverishment of societies that are labelled as "Islamic" or "Muslim" would make anyone want to run away and increasing numbers are doing exactly that. If you handed out European passports, most in the Muslim world would be on a flight out tomorrow if not tonight.

For those who are not well versed in the seerah or Islamic history, of the way of life in Medina and its antithetical one found in Mecca, of the Ummayyad, Abbasid or Ottoman eras, naturally accept the propaganda our secular elites feed them and assume how they live is somehow "Islamic"

As such, they conclude "Islamic" as being backward, primitive, ignorant, unproductive, pathological, destitute and irrational - so perversely they are doing the logically right thing - abandoning it!

Now to most of us, that is potentially understandable - what is shocking is why they reject God.

Our societies are secular client states of external powers with confused elites hopelessly drowning in their failed policies. Elites who themselves have abandoned any notion of God a long time ago - it remains at best an ancestral relic. It is why Allah says in sura al-maida:

"Those who do not rule by whatever Allah has revealed are the faasiqoon... zaalimoon... kaafiroon"

However they peddle the myth that everything is Islamic, lipservice to maintain power and legitimacy; all that is taught, all that is discussed and all that is lived is half-hearted at best, superficial and contradictory. Those emerging have little depth or substance in understanding anything let alone the Islamic creed. Few can even put up any arguments to justify it. It too has become a relic of the past - an archaic list of beliefs we parrot or mutter now and again when we are called upon to do so.

In such a situation it is all too easy to see Western ways of life as far better, far more prosperous, far more advanced, far more rational, far more confident than this sad state of affairs. Ways of life premised on secular or atheistic creeds that are probably more correct.

In such a situation it would kind of make more sense for such a person to abandon their way of life and adopt the latter.

The real question then is why more have not done so - that is the question that should be posed.

If I'm honest, I too would quite happily abandon, neigh, trash such an awful way of life if I was in their shoes.

However I would rethink what the correct way of life should be - not jump from the frying pan into the fire as they have done!
