The "Story of Stuff" is well worth watching - it contains the environmental activist Annie Leonard's devastating critique of consumer capitalism.
Nietzsche's "Twilight of the Idols" does the same from a philosophical perspective, considering how humanity destroyed the idols of the past, to replace them with a new set of idols - consumerism, democracy, wealth and so on.
