Abu al-Tufayl Amir ibn Wathilah al-Laythi (أبو الطُّفَيْل عَامِر بن وَاثِلَة الّليّثِي) was the last companion to pass away.
He was born after the hijra in the year of Uhud - probably in Kufa. Abu al-Tufayl was one of the elites of his tribe Kinanah.
The first time he saw the Prophet (saw) was at Hajj al-Wadaa, the final hajj performed by the Prophet.
His accomplishments included:
He passed away around the 110 AH and was buried in Mecca. (Dhahabi, Siyar A'lam al-Nubala, Vol. 3, p. 470, Ibn Kathir, al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah, Vol. 5, p. 203)
He narrated there was a time where no companion remained on earth except himself who had seen the Prophet (saw):
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صّلى اللهُ عليهِ وسلمَ وَمَا عَلَى وَجْهِ الأَرْضِ رَجُلٌ رَآهُ غَيْرِي
"I saw Allah's Messenger (saw) and there is none amongst the people of the earth who (are living at the present time and) had seen him except me" (5778)
