Contrary to the common view, man is not at the heart of the universe. We have been told that the universe revolves around us. The true purpose of the existence of the universe is that God wants to manifest his divine names and attributes here. God is All-Knowing (Al Ālim). He has the knowledge of everything. One level up of knowledge is the making of the actual thing. For instance, drawing the plan of a nuclear submarine is an indication of knowledge. However, building the actual nuclear submarine is way ahead of drawing the plan of it. God essentially took his knowledge ('ilm) one step further and created the universe as we see it.

In his words, God said; 'I was an unknown treasure, I wanted to be known and I created the universe.' This is a well-known Hadith Qudsi, not a verse in the Qur'an.
