I am increasingly seeing Muslims claim we have a romanticised view of the past, claims of Caliphates being perfect utopian societies. Apparently individuals use such fantasies to manipulate people in to joining their cause or political ideology.
Those who make these claims fail to understand the discourse where dominant western powers propaganda tells us our history was backward, a failure and theirs was progressive and enlightened, increasingly challenged by researchers, academics and activists who read their and our history and expose the mass historic revisionism and propaganda.
Sadly many ignore the propaganda value and revisionism of Western history, one characterised by raping, pillaging and colonising of the global south, concealed by stories of democratisation, innovation and gentlemanly trade.
They ignore the trajectory of a noble, prosperous and advanced Islamic civilisation, picking exceptional incidents in our history, generalising these incidents to darken our illustrious and progressive past, promising us bright futures under secular nationalistic ideologies and systems - all of which have brought about disasters on such a scale never seen in our 1400 year history!
We need to be an ummah of truth and honesty - not one promoting propaganda of Western powers who seek to maintain their dominance over us.
