How did Islam eradicate racism?

Islam begins with contextualising mankind as servants of God, varying skin colors, hair colors, languages and other differences to help us distinguish and identify each other. This creates a correct way of thinking about people:

Oh mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous. Indeed, Allah is all-knowing and all-acquainted. (Qur'an 49:13)

It sets a high standard of moral values and social interaction between Muslims in their civilisation.

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Do not envy each other, do no bid against each other, do not hate each other, do not turn your backs on each other, and let none of you sell upon the sale of another. Be slaves of Allah (swt) as brothers. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not wrong him, betray him, lie to him or despise him. Taqwa is here’, and he (saw) pointed to his breast three times, ‘It is sufficient evil for a man that he should despise his brother Muslim. All of a Muslim is sacred for a Muslim: his blood, his property and his honour.’ (Sahih Muslim)

This hadith is but one of the precious pearls emanating from the Messenger of Allah (saw).

The Prophet ) said, 'The Muslims are like one man, if his eyes complains then the whole of him complains, and if his head complains then the whole of him complains.' (Sahih al-Muslim)

The Prophet (saw) said, 'The example of the believer is like the body, if part of it hurts the rest of it is summoned.' (Ahmed)

It then follows this through with a series of shariah rules that have no room for discriminatory bias, whether it be racial, gender or culture. This is reinforced by numerous messengers' lived examples.

This is but one practical example of many where the Prophet Muhammed (saw) illustrated all this in practice.

When the Prophet (saw) entered Makkah after defeating Quraysh and becoming its ruler, he went and stood at the door of the Ka'ba, and called out "Where is Bilal? Call Bilal here for me!"

While waiting, he said while facing the door of the Ka'ba: "By Allah, I still continue to remember the day that they used to torture Bilal at the door of the Ka'ba." When Bilal arrived, the Prophet (saw) said to him "Enter with me, Bilal, for no one will pray with me inside the Ka'ba other than you."

After praying in the Ka'ba, he said to Bilal (ra): "Come and stand on top of it," referring to the Ka'ba.

Bilal (ra) tried to climb the Ka'ba, but it was too difficult due to the height, so the Prophet (saw) looked at whoever was closest, which was none other than Abu Bakr (ra) and Umar (ra) - two of the most honored and honorable of the Muslim leaders - and he asked them to lift Bilal (ra) up. So, Bilal (ra) put his right foot on Umar's shoulder, and his left foot on Abu Bakr's shoulder, and was raised up to stand on the top of the Ka'ba.

Then the Prophet (saw) said "O Bilal! By Allah whom there is no god but Him, the value of the Ka'ba is of extreme magnitude with Allah, and, by Allah, your value and honor today are of even greater magnitude."

Bilal (ra) then called out the Athan from atop the Ka'ba, calling out the words of tawheed in front of an army of 10,000 men - including the former most honored leaders of Quraysh and the Arabs and the most honored of the Sahaba.

What a stark contrast between the Islamic way of life - a way of life that liberates mankind from the sickness of judging people by their skin color or their language or their birthplace, and truly makes people of all colors equal and honored naturally in the hearts and minds of the masses - compared to the Western way of life that treats everyone who is not a white Christian or a white atheist as a secondary class of human or subhuman, not only abroad with their oppressive foreign policy, but even on their own soil as we are witnessing today.

These problems that afflict mankind today cannot be rectified except by that which rectified them at the time of the Prophet (saw), which is the establishment of the Islamic State. Only a Khilafah that establishes the Islamic way of life on a societal level can ever fix the problem of racism.
