Most of the companions were not very wealthy - however a small number were.  Sources like Ibn Kathir's historic Bidayah wal Nihayah and hadith collections like Bukhari suggest: - Abdr Rahman bin Awf left around 1000 camels, 100 horses, 3000 goats and 400 dinars to be distributed to each of the 100 survivors of badr. - Zubayr ibn al-Awwam left behind tracts of land in ghaba and 13 houses. - Uthman ibn Affan left behind 30 million dirhams, 150,000 dinars and 1000 camels. - Sad bin Abi Waqqas left behind around 250,000 dirhams. - Thalhah bin Ubaidallah left behind around 2 million dirhams and 200,000 dinars.  By any account this is a lot of wealth.
