In a nutshell: Firstly, Shariah encompasses the whole religion chosen by Allah for His slave-servants to bring them out of darkness into light. It is the legislation established and explained for them. It contains commands, prohibitions, licit and illicit. Whoever follows the Law of Allah, applies the lawful and avoids the unlawful, will have succeeded. Whoever violates the law of Allah is exposed to His wrath and thus to His punishment. Allah the Most High says: "Then We have put you on the path of Order [a clear and perfect religion]. So follow it and do not follow the passions of those who do not know. (Qur'an,45:18)

Topic

Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Shariah is the singular of shariah. It means what Allah establishes for the faithful in terms of religion, and instructs them to adhere to it such as prayer, fasting and so on. It is also called shir'a." From al-Ain (1/253) See as-Sihaah by al-Jawhari (3/1236)

Ibn Hazem (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

"Shariah is what Allah the Most High has established in religious matters and caused to be expressed by His Prophet (blessings and salutations be upon him) and by the previous prophets."

The abrogating part of it is used in the judgements. Linguistically, it refers to the place where the traveller can find water or the river where one can drink. In this connection, the Most High:

"He has legislated for you in matters of religion, what He enjoined on Nuh (Noah), what We revealed to you, and what We enjoined on Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and 'Isa (Jesus): 'Establish religion; and do not make it a matter of division." (Quran,42:13) From al)ihkaam (1/46)

Shaykh al-Islam, Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

"No one is allowed to deviate from the shariah in any of its affairs. On the contrary, all that is good for us is found in the heart of the shariah."

It is found in its foundations, in its branches, in its actions, in its policies, in its transactions and elsewhere. Allah the Master of the universe be praised. This is so because shariah is about obeying Allah the Most High and the Authorities from ourselves. It is in this sense that Allah the Most High says:

"O believers! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and those among you who hold the command." (Qur'an,4:59)

He has made it obligatory for us to obey Him and His Messenger in many verses, and He has forbidden us to disobey Him and His Messenger, and promised His approval, forgiveness, mercy and paradise by making it all dependent on His obedience and obedience to His Message. He makes the opposite depend on His disobedience and disobedience to His Messenger. Therefore, every Ulema, every Amir, every devotee and every partner must obey Allah and His Messenger in their respective areas of responsibility, whether it is teaching, executing power, or issuing a command or a prohibition, or performing an ordinary or cultic act, or whatever.

Indeed, Shariah is to follow the Messengers and obey them. For

"To deviate from the Shariah is to refuse to obey them, for the religion of Allah lies exclusively in that obedience." From the collection of advisory legal opinions (19/309).

The Ulama of the Standing Committee said:

"Shariah is the revelation made by Allah in His books transmitted to mankind by His messengers so that they may use them in their worship of Him in order to approach Him, in accordance with the order transmitted to them by their messengers (may Allah grant them all blessings and salvation).

The accepted method of application is the way that Allah revealed to the seal of His messengers, Muhammad (blessings and salutations be upon him) according to His word:
"Say: "O my people! Continue to act according to your way; I will also act according to mine. Then you will know who will have a better (fate) in the Hereafter." Surely, the unjust will never succeed.

(Qur'an,6:135) and according to the saying of the Prophet: "My community will be divided into 73 factions. They will all go to hell except for one.

-" Which one, O Messenger of Allah?"

-" Those who behave like me and my companions."

In conclusion

It is said that,

"As for the groups that deviate from it, like the Sufi brotherhoods, such as the Tidianiyyah, the Naqchabandiyyah, the Quadiriyyah and others, they have been innovated. It is not permissible to approve of them or follow them for the purpose of journeying towards Allah the Transcendent."
