What were the reasons that Islam could not spread in totality in India?

To elaborate in Arabia, Central Asia, Iran, North Africa where Islamic empires ruled, Islam became the religion of 80% of people. This did not happen in India even though it was ruled by Islamic empires for at least 800 years?
