Hizb ut-Tahrir (حزب التحرير) is the 'Party of Liberation', an international, Islam based political party whose stated aim is the resumption of Islam via the the Caliphate in order to implement Islam, unite the Muslim community ummah and the world.

The party was founded in 1953 in Jerusalem by Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani, an Islamic scholar from Haifa and religious court judge.

Nabhani developed a number of works detailing the systems of Islam along with the methodology to bring them back based on a detailed reading of the Messenger's seerah.

Since 1953, Hizb ut-Tahrir has spread to more than 50 countries and has a membership estimated to be between tens of thousands and about one million.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is active in many Western countries and across the Muslim world, despite being banned by many governments.

Members typically study in small private study circles, and where the group is not illegal, it engages with the media and organizes public speeches, rallies and conferences along with running many websites and other publications to bring about a change in public opinion. It's official website is hizb-ut-tahrir.org.
